VALUE

poetry by Kelsey Webb

art & layout by Alice M.

Human capital is
cast aside at the first
inkling of uselessness

like useless animals
backpedaling on the
slaughterhouse belt

useless baby chicks
crushed and gassed
then ground to feed
their mothers

a useless grandmother
after a week in a tub
full of water

the wound on her
sacrum softball-deep

almost to the bone

the wellness check
an afterthought.
