guidelines.

  • WRITERS
we especially want to see work about social situations which have no easy solutions. we love body horror but that’s not the only thing we publish.

submit unsettling, disconcerting adult market fiction. literary, slipstream, weird, experimental, bravura, gross, the absurd.

    we accept reprints and translations.

simultaneous submissions are preferred. don’t put your eggs in one basket.

you can withdraw your work at any time.

    VISUAL ARTISTS
submit visual art to be added to our artist directory, here.

    SLUSHPILE READERS
we are looking for readers who understand and know how to use trigger and content warnings.

we are looking for people who love short stories independent of experience, beginners-experts.

    EIC: Alice M.
    fiction editor: Sarah Michelson
    poetry editor: Kaisa S.

  • mass market or upmarket genre fiction, YA, middle grade, porn, problematic bullshit. unsettling does not mean traumatising.

we define ‘genre fiction’ as fiction where the plot is based around a cool idea.

we define ‘literary fiction’ as tension based around character development or social interaction.

we like cool ideas but for bodyfluids we want to see tension and interest which hinges on character. we prefer our social interactions uncomfortable, unsettling, or awkward. above all, not easily solved.

submissions not received through the contact form won’t be considered.

abuse will not be tolerated, and won’t receive a reply.

stop misgendering Alice in your query/bio letters, for your own sakes. Alice’s pronouns are ae|aer and ae are nonbinary. literally anything that does not assume Alice’s gender is fine.
